Third progress reports on renewable energy development in the EU (2013-2014)

According to the 2015 European Union Member States progress reports the share of renewables in gross final energy consumption in European Union in year 2014 reached 16.12%. Renewable energy contribution in Heating/Cooling, Electricity and Transport sectors reached respectively 18.1%, 27.4% and 5.5% in 2014.

EU 28 MS distance to 2020 overall RES share targets


In 2012 Sweden and Bulgaria exceeded the 2020 overall RES share targets respectively with 0.8% points and 0.4% points.

CZ, DK, EE, EL, IT, LV, LT, HR, AT, PL, RO, SK and FI need less than 5% points from the 2012 overall RES share to reach their 2020 targets.

DE, IE, FR, CY, LU, HU, MT, PT and SI need more than 5% points but less than 10% points from the 2012 overall RES share to reach their 2020 targets.

Second Progress Reports on renewable energy development in European Union (2011-2012)

According to Article 22 of Directive 2009/28/EC Member States had to submit by the end of 31st December 2013 to the European Commission the second Progress Reports on  renewable energy development in European Union during period 2011 - 2012.

New peer reviewed paper published in Elsevier's Renewable Energy Journal

An article entitled, 'Assessing complementarity of wind and solar resources for energy production in Italy. A Monte Carlo approach' has been published in Elsevier's Journal on Renewable Energy.

Enhanced energy research cooperation with West Africa

The JRC and the Centre for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (ECREE) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration at the occasion of the Vienna Energy Forum, organised by the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). This cooperation framework will facilitate the development of common tools (e.g. country specific maps with renewable energy based electricity costs), validation of results and publication.
